'The Dreaming Place'
Watercolour
10.5 x 14.5"
"I am the stars, the ocean, the smell of the rain on wet ground,
tears of joy & sorrow, lavender flowers, old incense, & brightly coloured paint swirling in a jar of water.
I am the translucent glint of a Dragonfly wing, the soft music of windchimes,
& a compassionate embrace.
I am the golden glow of a winter sunset, the worn & aged pages of a favourite book, & the soft firey glow of a candle in the dark of the night.
I am the small piece of driftwood, carved by the ocean waves, rose petals, ribbons, feathers & sage.
A big pot of tea, on a stormy day, Cosy jumpers & socks keeping the cold at bay."
~Julia Guthrie~
This painting is a self portrait...of sorts..I didn't aim for 'photo-realism' of course *chuckles*
But it does contain a lot of personal feelings & energy. It began as something quite different, & as the time passed it took on a life of it's own & I just painted her as she dictated.
However, I would like to leave this one to the viewer to see how it touches you...& perhaps you will even be able to tell me exactly what its meaning is.
I almost changed the name of this one at the last minute, when I realised that Charles De Lint actually has a book named 'The dreaming place'. But I guess it just shows that great minds think alike! :)

I love this picture. It has changed quite a lot from the original, but it has a stronger feel than that one. It's as though you were more grounded when you finished it. It's only by being completely grounded, that we can fully go into our dreams and place of meditation. I especially love the detail on the book. This is a great piece and one to be very proud of :)
Thank you Kim, you are right it has changed a lot! And I would agree with everything you said :)
That is why it feels so personal to me...it's not so much about 'symbolism' (like it usually is) but it's all 'feeling' for me in this one.
Thanks for your lovely words hon xxx
This is absolutlely gorgeous and one of my favorites of yours.
It just looks great
and amazing!
This is just beautiful. I love the 'lightness' of it.
It's really gorgeous and *you*. I know it's not meant to be a photograph, but the energy of this one is really peaceful and centered. Love it!

Thank You Gemma & Anna!
Danielle, I'm so glad you mentioned that word 'lightness', I like that too:)
sandy, *mwhaa* I LOVE that you feel it too :)

It turned out so beautiful, Julia! What I take away from it, is the birds and butterflies represent the power of your art and creativity, and are making their way into the world to make it a better place. The feather that has fallen onto the sketchbook is proof that it wasn't "just a dream..."
:-)
Hugs!
